چکیده

We present measurements of Stark interference in the 6S0 → 6P1 transition in Hg, a process whereby a static electric field E mixes magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole couplings into an electric dipole transition, leading to E-linear energy shifts similar to those produced by a permanent atomic electric dipole moment (EDM). The measured interference amplitude, aSI = (aM1 + aE2) = (5.8 ± 1.5)×10−9 (kV/cm)−1, agrees with relativistic, many-body predictions and confirms that earlier central-field estimates are a factor of 10 too large. More importantly, this study validates the capability of the Hg EDM search apparatus to resolve non-trivial, controlled, and sub-nHz Larmor frequency shifts with EDM-like characteristics.

اندازه‌گیری ضریب شکست غیر خطی در شیشه‌های آلاییده به بلورهای نیمرسانا

There are several techniques in use for non-linear refractive index measurement, namely, interferometric techniques, in which conventional inter-ferometers are used, degenerate for wave mixing (DFWM), and z-scan, Each of these techniques suffers from some shortcmings. For example conventional interferometers like Fabry-Perot and Twyman-Green need high quality optical components, unwanted refl...

Construction of a Carbon Paste Electrode Based on Novel Thiolated Ligand Capped Gold Nanoparticles for Determination of Trace Amounts of Mercury(II)

In the present study, a simple electrochemical sensor for trace determination of Hg(II) ions in aqueous solutions was introduced. The proposed sensor was designed by incorporation of the 4-methyl-piperidine-carbodithioate capped gold nanoparticles (GNPs) into the carbon paste electrode (CPE), which provides a remarkably improved sensitivity for stripping voltammetric determination of Hg(II). Di...

Snapshot-imaging motional Stark effect polarimetry

Measurement of the motional Stark effect (MSE) for Balmer alpha light emitted from heating or diagnostic neutral beams is a standard technique for estimating plasma toroidal current density in tokamaks. Most techniques typically rely on a determination of the polarization angle or relative intensities of the multiplet components which are spectrally resolved using either an array of interferenc...

Separation, Preconcentration and determination of Hg (II) Ion in Water Samples by Cloud Point Extraction Technique Coupled with UV-VIS Spectrophotometry using a New Complexing Agent

In this study a cloud-point extraction process using non-ionic surfactant Triton X-114 for extraction of mercury (II) from aqueous solutions was developed. The method is based on the complex formation of Hg (II) with benzyl (pyridin-2-yl) methylcarbamodithioate at pH 5.5. After preconcentration and dilution of the surfactant-rich phase, the enriched analyte was determined by s...

Central Composite Design for the Optimization of Hydrogel Based pH-Dependent Extraction and Spectrophotometric Determination of Mercury

In the present work a pH-dependent cloud point extraction procedure using pH-sensitive hydrogel polymer was applied for preconcentration and spectrophotometric determination of the Hg(II) as its Thio micher's ketone complex. Central composite design (CCD) and response surface method were applied to design the experiments and find out the optimum conditions. Four factors entitled concentration o...
